As a New Year's resolution in 2006 I decided to take up running. I'm doing this as a form of cross-training since most of the time I ride my bike(s) for exercise. From what I read and hear it's good to have a form of weight bearing exercise in your regime. So we shall see how the knees hold up to the pounding of running. Most of my early running was done on a rubberized track at the local junior high school ( Hixon Junior High School). More recently I've been creating routes all over my local neighborhood and various other places while travelling out of town.
I keep a log of all my runs for grins and for reference. Each log represents a year's worth of run. The logs are kept in Micro$oft Excel and webpages generated through Excel. The comments usually indicate what route I took and note anything interesting that might have happened along the way.

Track Lane Distance Calculator
- This script gives runners and track officials the offset distances for a given lane on a multi-lane running track. From a position on the inside lane to a parallel point on the outside lane, there is a difference in distance. Therefore, a staggered start with different starting points yields a finish of the same distance for all lanes. Enter the designated length of the race, the lane number and the lane width (usually between 1.2 and 1.28 meters).
Track Calculator
- North American Racewalking Foundation --- promoting racewalking throughout the United States and Canada. Have you ever been frustrated by having to use the outer lanes of the local high school or college track. You know what you want to do in Lane 1 but are not sure how to adapt your plan to the outer lanes. You could give up on using the track, you could bully your way onto Lane 1, OR you could use our Track Calculator to develop confidence in using any lane of the track for almost any workout.
